How do I know I’m procrastinating to study for my last exam?
Well I am updating this blog (but that’s besides the point).
I trying to teach myself how to program, something a few years ago I swore I never would figure out or do.
That’s a good clue that I should go back to the medicine books.

I’m not surprised that the 2012 conference for the American Academic of Cosmetic Surgery is being held in Las Vegas.
Not at all.

From a friend at another med school’s fb status:
dear xxxxxxx med: if you put a question in a final about the best place to look your femoral artery, please don’t be surprised if everyone starts touching themselves.
It made me chuckle….and then try finding it too.

There are few more divine moments in med school than when you are in the OR and “Call me Maybe” plays on the online radio, and soon enough the staff surgeon, scrub nurse, fellow, anesthesiologists are all bobbing their heads and humming with you.

What do you call a surgeon trained in urology and orthopedics?
An orthopenis.
Okay, I’ll admit, I didn’t make that up, heard it just mentioned at this conference.
Man, orthopods get made fun of a lot.

Still at this global health conference, taking part in case reports. The orthopedic resident is talking about a case with a 15 yo male who came in after an ATV crash.
Before the case could go any further, a delegate from Nigeria asked what was an ATV.
The resident explained that it was like a motorcycle with 4 wheels. Before she could get any further, a consultant spoke up: “You just need to know ATV stands for Adolescent Trauma Vehicle.”
There were a lot of nods of agreement.

Attending a global health conference, and one of the presenters is speaking about his study on the education/training methods in his hospital in Ethiopia.
The study involved polling the attendings and their residents.
In the end, the results showed that EVERYTHING the attendings thought they did well (teach, provide feedback, open to discussion, etc), the residents would disagree.
Likewise, everything the residents thought they did well (pre-readings, meeting deadlines on reports, etc), the attendings would disagree.
Guess staff-student misunderstanding IS a global concern.

Scribblings in someone’s notes we found.
